This might just be the best Michelin-starred restaurant experience in Norway this year — and not just because of the food.
To get to Iris, you travel from Oslo to Bergen, then take a two-hour ferry ride to Rosendal. The journey itself is part of the magic: surrounded by breathtaking fjords, mountains, and open water, you get to see Norwegian nature at its most stunning.
A Perfect Getaway
For me, this was the perfect escape from busy city life. Rosendal offered space to breathe — and to think. It’s rare to feel this relaxed and inspired at the same time, and Iris created exactly that kind of moment.
The Iris Experience
I won’t spoil the details — part of the magic is experiencing it for yourself — but the food and presentation at Iris easily reach two-Michelin-star level in my opinion. Every dish is beautiful, thoughtful, and technically flawless.
If you visit, I highly recommend the Discovery wine package. It’s excellent value and especially great if you’re still learning about wine — the selections were exciting, unexpected, and expertly paired.
A Team Driven by Passion
What stood out most, even beyond the scenery and food, was the genuine passion of the team. Everyone involved in this floating restaurant brings energy and care to the experience. That sense of purpose is felt in every interaction — and every course.
Traveling Solo, Leaving with Memories
I made this trip solo, and yet I’m leaving with new friends and unforgettable memories. Iris isn’t just a restaurant — it’s an experience that stays with you.
A Photographer’s Note
All photos were taken with a Leica M11 + 50mm Summilux. The interior lighting at Iris is especially worth noting: warm, soft, and beautifully natural. More restaurants should follow their lead — it makes the space feel intimate yet visually stunning.
💡 Pro tip: Book early, and plan for a full day. The journey is part of the story — and it’s one worth telling.
