There are restaurants that linger on your list for a while — and then there’s that perfect moment when you finally go, and everything exceeds your expectations. That was exactly my experience with Restaurant À L’aise.
In short: this might be the best you can get in Oslo right now. I’m just waiting for it to earn a second Michelin star — it already holds one.
Having dined at many top places across the city, I can confidently say À L’aise delivers unmatched quality for both price and presentation. Their newly launched Petite À L’aise menu (available Wednesdays and Thursdays) is the perfect entry point for first-time guests:
13 servings, including a glass of Champagne — all for 1495 NOK. A beautifully curated fine dining experience without needing to commit to the full tasting menu.
Despite the white-tablecloth setting, the service is warm and personal. The team truly goes above and beyond, making sure every guest feels welcome and cared for.
We went for the full experience — 20 servings — starting at 6 PM and finishing around midnight as the last table to leave. Every single dish was thoughtful, elegant, and original. In a city where menus often echo one another, the creativity here was truly refreshing.
The wine pairing deserves a special mention. It’s been a long time since I’ve had pairings this well-calibrated — each pour elevated the dish in a meaningful way. The sommelier’s knowledge and delivery were spot-on.
Honestly, I’m surprised À L’aise isn’t talked about more often. In an Oslo food scene that can sometimes chase trends over quality, this place is a reminder of what fine dining is supposed to be.
To anyone visiting the city: make a reservation here. It’s absolutely worth it — not just for the food, but for the entire experience.
💡 Pro tip: Book a table on a Wednesday or Thursday to try the Petite À L’aise menu — it’s great value and an ideal introduction to the restaurant’s philosophy.
